Impossible to miss in the center of the small village of Irissarry, come and discover Ospitalea, this monumental example of traditional Bas-Navarre farms, a former commandery founded by the Knights Hospitaller of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem (now Order of Malta), now transformed into a Departmental Center for Heritage Education.
Owned by the Department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Ospitalea supports you in discovering the local heritage through its events and temporary exhibitions.
The visit of the building will allow you to approach the history of Ospitalea, to appreciate its rehabilitation and the architectural program which guided it.
In the vast exhibition hall, you will marvel at the exceptional dimension that the impressive framework gives to the exhibitions.
Visits, workshops, games, shows, storytelling, heritage outings… are scheduled all year round to help you discover the facets of Basque heritage: nature, culture, buildings, language, traditional practices and know-how.
