At the exit of Ossès in the direction of Hélètte , Irissarry is a village of about 800 inhabitants, located in a valley in the heart of the Basque Country , at an altitude of 225m. The village is dominated by Mount Baigura (897m) and is located 15 minutes from Hasparren , Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and Saint-Étienne-de-Baïgorri and 40 minutes from the Basque coast .
The birth of Irissarry as well as the construction of the "Ospitalea" commandery and its oratory date from the 12th century, around the year 1150.The OSPITALEA Commandery is open to visitors.
