  We absolutely loved the food in the restaurant and the attention of the staff who are friendly and speak good English too. It did get very busy towards the end of the evening so we had to skip a couple of drinks to save us waiting to be served (we had to be up early the next day). The room was quite modern, clean, with a comfy bed and really nice bedding. The bathroom was amazing - with some complimentary toiletries, a powerful hair drier and soft towels. A heated towel rack meant we could dry our clothes. Although not a five star, it ticked all the right boxes as a one-night stopover on our "across the Pyrenees crusade". There is WiFi too, which was fantastic as, compared to many others we have stayed at, this seemed to be a rarity. The hotel has a beautiful garden to stroll around, with comfy garden sofas and sun loungers dotted around. There's an outdoor restaurant area too - quite romantic on a summer evening.

  This is a bucket list hotel. Biriatou doesn't have much about it but this Alpine lodge hotel is fabulously beautiful. It is the sort of place to either, go walking, or take a few books and read them whilst soaking in the mountain views. The food is excellent. Just book yourself a long weekend and soak it all up.

  The little Basque village of Biriatau is right on the French border with Spain, not far from Bayonne. Les Jardins de Bakea is a delightful small hotel. We didn’t stay here, but ate in the wonderful restaurant. The food is excellent with an interesting menu featuring dishes with a Basque flair. During the meal we were served tasty little extras (mignardises) between courses. The service is very good and everything is immaculately clean.
