When the previous owners decided to sell, they called on Mathieu, a gaming enthusiast they already knew. He had been doing events in the shop and had become known for his festival. A two-year transition period was needed to ensure a smooth handover. And it was successfully completed in June 2026!

For Mathieu, taking over La Baleine Bleue is both a privilege and a source of pride. His ambition is to enhance and develop the shop, as if it were the child he once was walking through its doors. Passionate about games since childhood, he found in La Baleine Bleue a place where he could grow and flourish, at a time when the "geek" world was far from fashionable. His background as a restaurant manager also instilled in him a strong sense of customer service and hospitality.

More than just a shop, La Baleine Bleue is a place for sharing

For Mathieu, being a shopkeeper is anything but vulgar: it's about building connections. His love of games as a shared experience began within his family. A father of two daughters, he introduced them to his favorite games. During the Covid pandemic, he turned to neighboring shops to find ways to entertain his family in the evenings, away from screens, and to rediscover his own favorites from a new perspective.

From this experience was born a board game association, created after the health crisis to combat isolation, initially among children, then adults. Its activities reach all audiences, including the most isolated. He also created a games festival, which celebrated its 6th edition in 2026. Festivals, cinema, local events: Mathieu readily ventures out into the shop to meet the general public and popularize games through exchange and close interaction.

The association remains very active around the shop, which has become a meeting point for game enthusiasts in the region.
