  WHEN A RESERVATION IS WORTHLESS: A WARNING TO FUTURE GUESTS OF “APARTAMENTOS CASA DEL ABUELO” If you're looking for apartments in Tudela (Navarra), tourist accommodation for a weekend, or a quiet long weekend, you should know what happened to us at Apartamentos La Casa del Abuelo (Tudela), after more than a year of staying there regularly. The last experience, in October 2025, was serious enough to make us lose all trust in this establishment and leave a written record of the events as a warning to future guests. We had booked and confirmed a specific apartment (Palacete Casa del Abuelo) with Cristina, the owner, via WhatsApp a month in advance. On the day of arrival, and without having received any prior notice, when we asked for information about key collection, her employee informed us that we no longer had the apartment we had booked because “another client” had extended their stay. I reiterate: at no point during that month, week, or day did anyone contact us to notify us of this change. They transferred our reservation to a third party without our consent. The supposed "relocation" was to an objectively inferior apartment (Entre Ríos), while still trying to charge the same price: we went from approximately 130 m² to 47 m², from 3 bedrooms to 2, and from 2 bathrooms to 1. We tried to stay at another establishment, but given the time and day, it was impossible. After being informed of our rights and in the absence of contractual consent, we decided to leave without paying. A week later, without having received any apology from the owner, they provided us via WhatsApp with an account number for payment. It was then that we formally requested the invoice and the complaint form, essential documentation to be able to exercise our rights as consumers. The establishment's actions violate basic consumer protection principles: • General Law for the Defense of Consumers and Users (Royal Legislative Decree 1/2007): prohibition of unilaterally modifying the contracted conditions without justified cause or the consumer's consent. • Obligation to honor the confirmed reservation, derived from the principle of contractual compliance. • Royal Decree 1619/2012 (Billing Regulations): obligation to issue an invoice upon customer request. As an additional example of customer service, Cristina literally told us on the phone: "You should consider yourselves lucky that we managed to find you new accommodation." This phrase perfectly describes the attitude with which a clear breach of contract was handled. To this day, despite having requested the invoice both by phone and in person, we still do not have it, which is essential to file a formal complaint with the Consumer Affairs Office of Navarre and, if necessary, pursue appropriate legal action. In short, this is how they treat customers, even after more than a year of relationship: they don't honor reservations, they don't inform guests of changes, and they handle incidents without any customer service whatsoever. For all these reasons, we cannot recommend these accommodations to anyone looking for security, professionalism, and basic respect for the consumer. A confirmed reservation should provide PEACE OF MIND, not PROBLEMS.
