    • Nestled at the confluence of the Nives and at the crossroads of the roads serving the entire Basque Country (10 minutes from the Spanish border and 45 minutes from Saint-Jean-de-Luz, 1h15 from Pamplona), this charming city invites you to discover its rich historical heritage, its gastronomy, its festivals and its landscapes.

Since its foundation at the end of the 12th century, on the initiative of the king of Navarre, Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port has become the key city of the kingdom of Navarre in its lands on the northern slopes of the Pyrenees. Ideally located at the foot of the Cize pass ports and along the great Pyrenean crossing route via Roncesvalles, the city became a stronghold, a garrison town, a commercial crossroads and a Mecca for the pilgrimage to Compostela.
