  Always a very friendly welcome with an excellent room and a very sweet hostess. We come here twice a year on our way to/from Portugal. Always a pleasant stay.

  Every aspect of Maison Iparra's design and construction is genuine and true to Basque architectural traditions, but our room here was at least as modern and comfortable as what I'd expect to see in a newly constructed four- or even five-star hotel. The bed was just as large. Likewise the closet and the bathroom. The plumbing: brand new. The furniture: like new, but way more tasteful (Art Deco (original or first-rate reproduction) desk, side table, bedside tables). The wall art, perfectly curated (and, again, Art Deco style) golf and pelota drawings, cartoons, and paraphernalia. If anything, the room was larger than anything short of a hotel suite. Immaculate. Okay. There was no ballroom or, so far as I know, gymnasium, bar, conference room, or similar convention-center amenity that I would never expect to find in a bed & breakfast or use if it was found. The traditional architecture, Art Deco decor, and modern accommodations are the work of the proprietress, Sandrine Charlanne, who oversaw the building's design and construction. It appears to be a well-conceived and beautifully maintained purpose-built bed & breakfast, which I did not realize was even a thing until we checked in. You may also credit her with the delicious breakfasts, built around delicious yogurt (with muesli & granola and a rotating selection of jam additives), fruit and a rotating selection of baked goods, as was typical of all our breakfasts in Southern France. We certainly could not have hoped for a more gracious hostess or more pleasant stay. Maison Iparra is tucked away in Arcangues, but never-the-less handy to Bayonne, Biarritz, Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
