      Permits

      YCAA training
The YCAA has a very long experience in training and has already trained more than 1600 people for boat licenses.

The new regulations concerning boat licenses have been taken into account. The YCAA training establishment, entitled “YCAA Boat School”, obtained approval from the Maritime Affairs authorities on January 14, 2008.

      • The means

A training room, equipped with a video projector, a professional audio-visual teaching program with control tests under exam conditions (remote control boxes).

      • An 8.50m boat for practical training which takes place on the Adour.
      • Using GPS, mapping, VHF and fish finder for fishing.

      • The coastal permit

Preparation for the theoretical exam : The theoretical training lasts 6 to 8 weeks, with 4 to 5 hours of instruction per week. Classes are held in the evenings from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm, Monday to Friday. The multiple-choice exam is administered by the Maritime Affairs department.

Price: €300 for the coastal license (training) (club membership included).

Practical training : The training requires at least two hours spent at the helm of the boat and one hour of group instruction. It is validated by the training establishment when the required objectives are met. It consists of mastering boat handling, but also learning proper procedures, particularly regarding safety (equipment, meteorological concepts) and the most common malfunctions on a motorboat.

This training is provided collectively in a classroom for one hour, then individually on the boat during three 45-minute sessions, depending on the availability of the candidates.

      • The Offshore License

The exam consists of a theoretical test organized by the Maritime Affairs department. Candidates must already hold a Coastal Skipper's License.

The training consists of 10 sessions of 2.5 hours each and takes place over two months, with one evening session per week on Tuesday or Thursday from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm.

The training content includes the theoretical navigation test (map exercise), tide calculations and various questions (on meteorology and safety).

      • Restricted Radiotelephone Operator's Certificate (RROC)

The duration consists of 4 sessions of 2.5 hours each, grouped over two to three weeks:

      • Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30pm to 10:00pm.
      • The exam is organized by the ANFR (National Frequency Agency) administration.
