    • Tradition and Innovation at the Heart of the Basque Country

Located in Ossès, in the heart of the Basque Country, Maison Brana produces its liqueurs and spirits in its distillery and cultivates its Irouléguy wines on the family vineyard in Ispoure. A dual vocation, winemaking and distilling, is rare in the region.

It all began in 1974, when Étienne and Adrienne Brana planted a Williams pear orchard and built their first distillery. From this decision, Brana pear brandy was born, which over the years has become a must-have in the Basque Country. The range has continued to expand ever since, driven by the same high standards and a genuine passion for local flavors.

      Brandies

Brana's white eaux-de-vie express the quintessence of the fruit. They come in Williams pear, raspberry, clementine, plum and Corsican citron, all resulting from careful distillation in the house's copper stills.

      The gins

The House has created two exclusive recipes. Gin with Espelette Pepper combines traditional botanicals with this iconic spice from the Basque Country, the only one in France to hold a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), for a fresh and subtly spicy finish. Gin with Lime, on the other hand, plays on the zesty notes of citrus fruits for a fresher, summerier expression.

      Whisky

In 2023, the House reached a new milestone with the launch of Laminak, the first whisky entirely brewed, distilled and aged in the Basque Country. Its name pays homage to the Laminak, legendary creatures of Basque folklore.

      Liqueurs

Six natural liqueurs complete the range: raspberry, pear, clementine, lemon verbena, mint, and cocoa. Completely natural, they are made from the maceration and distillation of the fruit.

      Appetizers

Maison Brana has also developed a range of aperitifs rooted in local flavors. Pastis Brana offers a fresh take on the classic anise-flavored liqueur with a touch of Espelette pepper. Brana vermouths, crafted from the Maison's own eaux-de-vie, provide a Basque and botanical interpretation of the flavored aperitif.

      Visit the distillery

Maison Brana opens the doors of its Ossès distillery for guided tours. This is an opportunity to discover the stills, understand the production process, and conclude with a tasting of the distillery's products. Tours last approximately one hour, for groups of up to 10 people, at €12 per person (€9 reduced rate for residents of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, free for children under 12).

      Book a distillery tour

The Ossès shop is open Monday to Saturday, from 10am to 1pm and from 2pm to 7pm in summer, with free tasting without reservation for up to 5 people.

The House also has a shop in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, in the heart of the historic town, ideally located for visitors taking the road to the Pyrenees.

Maison Brana also owns a vineyard in Ispoure where it produces Irouléguy wines. The estate is open all summer and offers tours, sales, and on-site consumption of Brana products alongside local specialties. Learn more
