Nestled on the rugged coast of Gipuzkoa, where the Flysch cliffs plunge serenely into the Atlantic, the Hiru Uhinak Hotel stands out as Deba 's newest gem. More than just a place to stay, this establishment is an invitation to slow down, breathe in the sea air, and immerse yourself in the Basque spirit. Ideally located on the seafront, it offers a privileged gateway to the Basque Coast Geopark, a UNESCO- listed area where time seems to stand still.

From spa hotel to sustainable haven, a historic renaissance

The story of the Hiru Uhinak building is one of resilience and metamorphosis. Erected in 1936 to house spa guests, the building's fate was dramatically altered by the Spanish Civil War. After serving as a refuge and learning space as an ikastola (Basque-language school), the site is now returning to its original purpose: hospitality.

The very name, Hiru Uhinak ("Three Waves" in Basque), originates from a local legend : that of a sailor confronting three mystical waves—life, suffering, and freedom. By vanquishing the witch hidden within the third wave, he reclaims his destiny. It is this same vital force that animates the owners who, after 20 years of hotel expertise in France, have returned to their native land to create a regenerative tourism project. Here, luxury is a matter of ethics, natural materials (wood, stone, organic fabrics), and a profound respect for the environment.

The Hiru Uhinak Hotel: cocoons facing the ocean

The interior architecture of the Hiru Uhinak Hotel pays homage to its location. Sandy colors, organic textures, and natural light create a perfect harmony between the spa's past and eco-conscious modernity. Each space has been designed as an individual haven of peace, equipped with the finest comforts : Smart TV, high-speed Wi-Fi, Nespresso machine, minibar, as well as complimentary bathrobes and slippers.

Club Lapari: a sanctuary of well-being

Like a pearl on the coast, Club Lapari, the hotel's spa, spans 1,000 square meters. This sanctuary is open not only to residents, but also to outside guests, creating a true bridge between travelers and locals.

The experience is based on the benefits of thalassotherapy, featuring a heated seawater relaxation pool. The sensory journey continues with a Finnish sauna and a hammam for deep detoxification. For those seeking spiritual reconnection, the treatment area uses Alqvimia products, a benchmark in luxury aromatherapy. Therapeutic massages, aerial yoga, Pilates on a reformer, and guided meditation make this a unique wellness center in the Basque Country.

Hiru Bistro: a responsible ode to Basque gastronomy

Hiru Bistro is not just the hotel restaurant; it's a gourmet destination in its own right in Deba, open to all epicureans. Under the guidance of Eneko Arandia, a young chef deeply rooted in the region, dining becomes an act of commitment.

A committed culinary philosophy (FLOSS)

Hiru Bistro 's cuisine is based on five pillars: Fresh, Local, Organic, Seasonal & Sustainable. Each ingredient tells a story of its terroir. Traceability is complete, favoring short supply chains and local producers who share this ethical vision of food.

In a light-filled dining room, the chef elevates the treasures of the Bay of Biscay. Fish, sourced from local fishing, is prepared with exquisite delicacy. Meat lovers are equally delighted with a selection of exceptionally tender grilled cuts. The menu also showcases Basque cheese heritage and culminates in a triumphant finale of homemade desserts, where each bite is a celebration of seasonality. It's a signature cuisine, both contemporary and deeply rooted in tradition.
