      AN EXCEPTIONAL MONUMENT:

The Church of the Hôpital-Saint-Blaise is the last vestige of an ancient medieval hospital foundation. Of remarkable originality, its architecture of Romanesque essence blends with the genius of Hispano-Moorish art, thus bearing the marks of the influences that crossed paths in the 12th century. These influences are reflected in the presence of architectural gems, true rarities on this side of the Pyrenees .

Historic Monuments and UNESCO World Heritage sites bear witness to the wealth of this remarkably well-preserved site, nestled between traditional houses from the 16th and 17th centuries, at the entrance to the Basque Country.

For a guided discovery, an 8-minute audio-guided tour is offered to visitors every day from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. from April 15 to November 3, 2024 (free participation).

A 20-minute Sound & Light Show is also offered for a complete immersion in the history and architecture of the building thanks to a high-definition scenography combining 3D technology and lighting effects inside the church. A unique tour-show, for a historical and poetic moment.

This highly technical show, created by the villagers, will transport you in the footsteps of pilgrims from the Middle Ages, whilst respecting the purity of the place.

Let yourself be tempted by an original and surprising journey through time…

      Open from Easter to All Saints Day, daily at 11am, 12pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm, 5pm and 6pm.

      Admission: €6 / adult, €3 / child (4 -14 years).

Discover this Romanesque building with Hispano-Moorish influences, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The installation of an audio guide—available in several languages—is a brilliant idea, allowing for a self-guided tour of the monument (activated by a coin-operated mechanism). For just a few euros, you can enjoy sound and lighting that highlights the various architectural elements, offering visitors explanations, a truly immersive experience, and a brief escape from time. We didn't have the opportunity to see the stage show, but we thoroughly enjoyed this alternative. The care put into showcasing this building and the heritage of this small village is evident! We certainly didn't regret our visit and highly recommend that other travelers do the same!

The sound and light show conveys in twenty minutes everything you need to know about the church and its construction during the Middle Ages.

Beautiful. On the trail. You can take a walking route through the trees next to a river.

This is a pretty and very historic church. I am not sure I would recommend driving a long way to see it, unless you were seriously into religion or architecture, but if you are on a long journey it...

The 12th century church stands in the middle of the small village of Hopital St-Blaise, west of Oloron-Ste-Marie. It pre-dates the spread of Gothic architecture and is in the Roman style. It...
