Pas de Roland Nature Reserve in Itxassou

The Pas de Roland is a gorge carved out by the Nive , in the lands of Labourd , in Itxassou. At the bottom of the gorge, the path runs along the cliffs, takes you under stone arches, and bypasses blocks of rock, escaped from the mountain. The setting is mineral and impresses at times, then becomes softer and more bucolic. The walk follows the river, which makes it very pleasant during the summer. In the hinterland and far from the hustle and bustle of the Basque coast, it is not a very touristy site. This walk, against a background of legend, is the ideal place to recharge your batteries, surrounded by nature.
