The etymology of Bidart, the contraction of the words "bide" (path) and "artean" (at the crossroads) defines the village "at the crossroads", at the crossroads, at the meeting of the coastal path and the mouth of the Uhabia river.

Its motto "Bidartean zuzena onena" means "at the crossroads, the straightest path is the best" says a lot about the strong character inscribed in the DNA of the people of Bidart.

Bidart has not escaped the development linked to the attractiveness of the Basque Country and has, over time, transformed into a small town that has managed to retain its village charm.
