    • The TALAIA mushroom walking stick: a handcrafted, practical and typically Basque walking stick

Blending pastoral tradition and artisanal innovation, the TALAIA mushroom walking stick embodies the spirit of the Basque Country. Designed and handcrafted in Eric Burel Etchegoin's workshop in Anglet, this ingeniously designed wooden walking stick combines functionality, aesthetics, and a connection to local roots.

Designed for nature lovers, mushroom pickers, shepherds and hikers, it quickly becomes a walking companion that is as useful as it is elegant.

A clever, 100% handcrafted mushroom walking stick

The TALAIA mushroom walking stick stands out for its dual function: with a simple and refined appearance, it conceals an integrated knife in its pommel, ideal for cutting mushrooms in the great outdoors, without taking out a separate accessory.

This discreet, robust and secure system transforms this pastoral staff into an ingenious tool, perfectly suited for gathering, but also for walking on all types of terrain.

Made from carefully selected local wood, each stick is unique: the ash, worked with a flame according to the Yakisugi method, offers a naturally protective, warm and characterful finish.

The pommel is designed to accommodate a screw system that allows the blade to be easily locked or removed.

A mushroom stick personalized with your image

True to the DNA of the TALAIA brand, each mushroom stick can be fully customized.

Eric creates your piece to order, based on your body shape, aesthetic preferences, and intended use. You can choose:

      • The size of the pole, for optimal walking comfort
      • The type of blade integrated into the pommel
      • Personalized engravings (initials, symbol, motto…)
      • The wood and pommel are finished in various horns or metals.
      • A removable rubber tip, ideal for hard surfaces

Each element is handcrafted, with a focus on sustainability and respect for the environment.

No detail is left to chance: from the choice of wood to the adjustment of the blade, your TALAIA mushroom stick is a functional work of art, designed to last.

A walking stick made in Anglet, in the heart of the Basque Country

Based in Anglet, between Bayonne and Biarritz, Éric perpetuates an authentic Basque craft, promoting noble materials and traditional techniques adapted to today's needs.

In his workshop-boutique, he handcrafts unique walking sticks, among which the mushroom stick is one of his most original and practical creations.

More than just an accessory, the TALAIA mushroom stick embodies local craftsmanship, respecting both the wood and the traditional techniques. It is for anyone who wants to combine utility, beauty, and cultural heritage in a personalized object that is both rustic and refined.

Why choose a TALAIA mushroom stick?

      • Its ingenious design features a knife concealed in the pommel.
      • For its simple and natural aesthetic
      • For its local, artisanal production, respecting Basque traditions
      • For complete customization, tailored to your image
      • For its versatility: walking stick, gathering tool, decorative object

Le couteau Nafarroa manche manech foncé vient d'arriver chez moi; quel beau couteau ! Simple, très maniable, taille parfaite pour moi. Coutellerie Talaia, monsieur Eric, merci beaucoup ! Willem, Gendt, Pays-Bas.

Excellent cutlery, superb products and, to top it all off, a high-quality and exceptionally friendly welcome. What more could you ask for?

The online shopping experience and advice are excellent, but what truly stands out, for those who can pick up their order, is arriving at the workshop. You can feel the artist's spirit; the welcome is wonderful, the explanations engaging, the advice appropriate, and the way Éric interacts with his guests reveals what drives him every day—passion, sharing, expertise, humanity, and simplicity in all his creations, each more beautiful than the last. The only risk…that you might leave with much more than you came for, and even if it's not another work of art, it will be a wonderful encounter. ESA
