    • The TALAIA Shepherd's Umbrella: the elegance of a traditional Basque object, reinvented in Anglet

At the crossroads of fine craftsmanship and Basque pastoral tradition, the TALAIA shepherd's umbrella is much more than a simple accessory. It bears witness to a rural and mountain heritage, brought up to date by Eric, a craftsman based in Anglet, between Biarritz and Bayonne. With passion and meticulous attention to detail, he has breathed new life into this iconic object by combining it with the ancestral know-how of Parapluies des Pyrénées, a family business located in Pau. The result: a high-end, entirely handmade umbrella, crafted around the TALAIA walking stick, blending authenticity, durability, and refinement.

A shepherd's umbrella made using Basque craftsmanship

Originally used by shepherds to brave the elements in the Basque mountains, the shepherd's umbrella has become a powerful symbol of Basque culture. At TALAIA, it retains this essence while acquiring a contemporary touch. Each piece is crafted in collaboration with the master artisans of Panto, guardians of a know-how passed down through three generations.

      Features of the TALAIA umbrella:

      • Thick cotton canvas: waterproof, resistant and durable against the elements
      • 9 natural rattan ribs: flexible, strong and elegant
      • Mast made of charred ash: local wood worked by hand, according to the Yakisugi method
      • Carved pommel: in black horn, Manech horn or white bone (ivory appearance)
      • Traditional engraving of the 7 bands representing the Basque provinces (Zazpiak Bat)

This handcrafted umbrella embodies the perfect balance between utility, aesthetics, and symbolism. Robust, reliable, and visually unique, it is equally suited to city strolls and rainy days in the countryside, all while telling a story rooted in the Basque Country.

A handcrafted and customizable collection by TALAIA

Each TALAIA shepherd's umbrella can be personalized to your liking. Eric offers a bespoke collection, available in five canvas colors, with a choice of three distinct handles:

      • Black horn: understated, shiny and natural
      • Manech horn: veined, warm, typical of the Basque Country
      • White bone: light, elegant, evoking pastoral tradition

But beyond the choice of materials, the TALAIA workshop invites you to go further in personalization:

      • Engraving on the pommel: initials, logo, symbol or design
      • Inscription on the brass ring: personal motto, date, quote…
      • Custom finishes available upon request: specific colors, textures, and details.

Each order then becomes a unique object, true to your tastes and your story.

An exceptional umbrella, blending heritage and modernity

By choosing a TALAIA shepherd's umbrella, you are opting for a locally handcrafted product that respects traditions and natural materials. You are supporting a dedicated artisan who values quality work, far removed from industrial production.

This umbrella is not just beautiful: it is also functional, sturdy, and designed to last.

Whether as an original gift, a souvenir from the Basque Country, or as an everyday item, the TALAIA shepherd's umbrella will seduce you with its authenticity and character.

Every detail is designed to reflect the soul of this proud and creative region.
