    • TALAIA: A craft workshop you absolutely must discover in the Basque Country

Eric, a passionate craftsman, is driven by his love of beautiful things and meticulous work. Initially a motorcycle enthusiast, he has transformed his quest for precision and aesthetics into true artisanal expertise. Today, his workshop, TALAIA, located in Anglet between Bayonne and Biarritz, is a place where tradition and creativity intertwine. Specializing in the creation of Basque walking sticks inspired by the makila and regional and Japanese knives, Eric invites you to delve into the history and traditions of the Basque Country through unique and authentic objects.

TALAIA: The excellence of Basque cutlery in Anglet

The Basque knife, a symbol of tradition and craftsmanship, is at the heart of the TALAIA workshop. Eric perpetuates this rich history with talent and meticulous attention to detail by offering a diverse range of Basque knives :

      • Basque pocket knives with a locking or slip joint,
      • Basque table and kitchen knives,
      • Iconic models like the TTIPIA, HANDIA, SUKALDIA and NAFARROA.

Each Basque knife is crafted from fine materials: handles made of juniper, olive, ebony, or boxwood, and blades of forged or Damascus steel. The handles, with their smooth and elegant lines, are reminiscent of a crosier's crook, almost as long as the blade, for a perfect grip.

These creations, certified by a quality and authenticity label, reflect the artisanal excellence of the Basque Country. Complete your collection with a cutting board or a wooden box, crafted with the same care and attention to detail.

TALAIA: Unique Basque walking sticks inspired by the makila

The makila, an ancient walking stick reserved for the nobility, is being revived thanks to Éric. Reinterpreted to rediscover its original function, the Talaia stick is a perfect companion for hiking enthusiasts.

Crafted from ash wood, it features a black horn or bone pommel, an engraved brass ring, and a stainless steel tip. Available in four sizes and fully customizable, this walking stick combines elegance, sturdiness, and practicality. The wood's flexibility and ergonomic grip make it an essential accessory for your outdoor adventures.

Once your hike is over, the Talaia makila finds its perfect place in a living room, becoming a unique decorative piece, a testament to traditional Basque craftsmanship.

TALAIA: Authentic Basque products not to be missed

In his shop in Anglet, Éric invites you to immerse yourself in a world of craftsmanship imbued with tradition and modernity. Whether you are drawn to the functional beauty of Basque knives or the timeless elegance of Talaia walking sticks, each piece tells a story and reflects the identity of the Basque Country.

Let yourself be captivated by these handcrafted objects, designed with passion and precision, and leave with a piece of history to share or keep. TALAIA is much more than a workshop; it's an experience to be lived.
