    • The Basque Knife workshop , located between Bayonne and Biarritz, thanks to its manual and family know-how, its old-fashioned workshop and its desire for authenticity, offers for sale the real Basque shepherd's sticks as they were made by the cutlers of the Basque country from the 19th century .

Séverine and Christophe, Artisans d'Art, Masters of apprenticeship in cutlery for the Chamber of Trades and Crafts of Nouvelle Aquitaine, Compagnon cutler and blacksmith, very attached to the preservation and transmission of heritage, restore the humble shepherd's staff to its former glory.

Equipped with this accessory, the shepherd watches over the flock by leaning on the solid pommel, guides the animals during transhumance, keeps away any potential dangers and hoists himself up during his ascents to the summer pastures.

Christophe is very familiar with the making of walking sticks from natural wood because his great-grandfather had introduced him to this artisanal and ancestral craft.

The Basque walking stick from the Couteau Basque workshop belongs to the large Makhila family. Taller than the Makila and equipped with a metal tip, the Terre de Bergers (Shepherds' Land) stick is the emblem of the Basque territory, a land of pastoralism for 5000 years.

      But not only that!

The walking stick ("Makila" in Basque) , crafted by Couteau Basque, is certainly rooted in the Basque Coast and the Pyrenees, but it also carries with it a wealth of values. Made with a focus on realism and historical accuracy, this stick is designed to be both sturdy and understated. The chestnut branch from which it is made gives it the perfect properties for walking (lightness, strength, and the natural mechanical elasticity of this wood, which has been used for centuries).

It is and remains the ideal companion for all walks and excursions.

The Terre de Bergers walking stick, a true replica of a Basque shepherd's staff, symbolizes rectitude and honesty. It is designed to be free of ostentatious embellishments and its price is not prohibitive.

The shop located at 26 rue des Basques in Bayonne offers an assortment of walking sticks for all sizes and uses starting from €80.

I'm so glad I ordered a beautiful Basque knife made from sheep's horn from this craftsman; plus, the unique engraving was a gift! From ordering to delivery, everything went perfectly. The knife is high quality and the workmanship is impeccable. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him. Thank you!

We bought a walking stick. Séverine and Christophe personalized it for us by engraving our mother's little Italian Greyhound. Thank you so much to them for undertaking this engraving. The stick and the handle are beautiful. I highly recommend their expertise and professionalism.
