    • The Couteau Basque artisanal workshop , located between Bayonne and Biarritz, thanks to its manual and family know-how, its old-fashioned workshop and its desire for authenticity, offers for sale authentic Basque shepherd's crooks as they were made by cutlers in the Basque country from the 19th century.

Séverine and Christophe, Artisans d'Art, Masters of cutlery apprenticeship for the Chamber of Trades and Crafts of Nouvelle Aquitaine, Companion cutler and blacksmith, very attached to the preservation and transmission of heritage, restore its letters of nobility to the humble shepherd's crook.

Equipped with this accessory, the shepherd watches over the flock by leaning on the solid pommel, guides the animals during transhumance, wards off potential dangers and hoists himself up during his ascents in the summer pastures.

Christophe is well-versed in the manufacture of natural wood walking sticks, as his great-grandfather introduced him to this traditional craft.

The Basque walking stick from the Couteau Basque workshop belongs to the large Makhila family. Taller than the Makila with a metal tip, the Terre de bergers stick is the emblem of the Basque territory, a land of pastoralism for 5000 years.

      But not only that!

The stick ("Makila" in Basque) Terre de bergers made by Couteau Basque , is certainly territorial, Basque Coast and Pyrenees, but also carries values. Because this stick, made with a concern for realism and history through the ages, is intended to be solid and sober. The chestnut branch that constitutes it gives it the perfect properties for walking (lightness, solidity, natural mechanical elasticity of this plant used for centuries).

It is and remains the ideal companion for all walks and excursions.

The Terre de bergers walking stick, a true replica of the Basque shepherd's staff, symbolizes rectitude and honesty. It is intended to be devoid of ostentatious frills and its sale price is not prohibitive.

We bought a walking stick. Séverine and Christophe personalized it for us by engraving our mother's little Italian Greyhound. Thank you so much to them for undertaking this engraving. The stick and the handle are beautiful. I highly recommend their expertise and professionalism.
