Completely renovated by its owners in 2021, the house "Ongi Ethorria," which means "Welcome" in Basque, was originally the village's first butcher shop and delicatessen. After several years of neglect following the cessation of business, the place has been reborn in an almost inevitable way, as the owners, themselves butchers and delicatessen owners, have transformed the ground floor into a bistro and the upper floor into a gîte (holiday cottage).

Located in the heart of the village, enjoy the many restaurants and local shops that keep the village vibrant. (Butcher 50m away, Spar supermarket, restaurants and bakeries 60m away…)

A short stop at the butcher shop located just opposite or at the Arka charcuterie bistro located on the ground floor to discover these two distinct places, animated by the same passion carried by your hosts, the Sage family: To value and work with local breeds, to offer traditional cooked dishes, to introduce the homemade charcuterie made on site.

Thanks to its tourist appeal, the village of Sare and its nearly 3,000 inhabitants offer a variety of activities. Come and discover the village year-round. Here is a selection of activities recommended for you:

• The Rhune train: the authentic cog railway from the 1920s that will take you to the summit of La Rhune. The station is located 4km by car from the gîte. Open from the end of March to the end of November.
• The prehistoric caves of Sare: Whether you're with family, as a couple, or alone, the Sare caves can be visited from February to December. They are located 5km by car from the gîte.
• The Suhalmendi hiking loop starting from Sare: Low altitude mountain (348m), enjoy a family walk to discover the Kintoa Basque pig breed thanks to its route and its 10 interpretive panels presenting the breed and its characteristics, and all this while having a 360° panorama over the Nivelle valley.
