Suhalmendi Nature Reserve in Sare

Suhalmendi is a mountain in Labourd, between Ascain and Sare. A hiking loop allows you to get there from Ascain. It is a rather family walk. At the beginning you cross wooded areas and the path takes you over a few streams. Then, going up to the summit, the vegetation becomes more stunted and the ascent can be tough, in the event of hot weather, because shade is scarce. The panorama of the Pyrenees deserves this effort all the same. On the course, you will also come across Kintoas , Iberian "Pie noir pigs", and perhaps a few Pottoks, horses typical of the Basque Country.
