    • Bedua: Tradition, product and authenticity on the banks of the Urola

A gastronomic corner with a Basque soul and a wine list of more than 500 selections

Nestled in a natural setting just outside Zumaia, Bedua restaurant is much more than a place to eat: it's a living tribute to traditional Basque cuisine and a deep respect for the ingredients. At the helm is the fourth generation of a family committed to preserving the essence of a project that has maintained its identity over time.

A philosophy based on authenticity and local products

Bedua's culinary offerings revolve around traditional Basque cuisine, with a special emphasis on grilled dishes, always prepared with seasonal, top-quality ingredients. This philosophy is reflected in every dish, from fresh fish from the Cantabrian Sea to select meats expertly cooked over an open flame.

One of the restaurant's cornerstones is its own vegetable garden, from which they source a large portion of the produce served to their diners. Cultivation is entirely seasonal and adapted to the natural rhythms of the land. This commitment allows them to offer fresh, flavorful, and sustainable vegetables, with clear traceability from field to plate. The garden receives daily, constant care, reflecting their deep passion for the product.

A wine list that travels the world without forgetting the local.

To complement its culinary offerings, Bedua boasts one of the most extensive wine lists in the region, with over 500 carefully selected wines. From family-run wineries in the Basque Country to renowned international names, each label has been chosen to enhance the flavors of its cuisine. The front-of-house team provides knowledgeable and friendly service, tailoring recommendations to each guest's tastes and preferences.

Enjoy the outdoors and discover Zumaia

In addition to its inviting indoor dining room, Bedua boasts an outdoor terrace perfect for enjoying the natural surroundings on sunny days. Located next to the Urola River and surrounded by greenery, the restaurant encourages you to linger after your meal with relaxing views and a tranquil atmosphere.

Visitors to Bedua can take the opportunity to explore the attractions of Zumaia and its surroundings. Just a few minutes away lies the famous Flysch, a unique geological phenomenon that forms part of the Basque Coast Geopark. It's also possible to stroll through the town's historic center, enjoy kayaking on the river, or visit the nearby Hermitage of San Telmo, known for its appearance in films and its sea views.

FRAUD AND OVERPRICED. We were back in Zumaia and, after reading the reviews, decided to try this restaurant. Nice place. But the food was nothing special for those Michelin-starred prices, which they don't even have. A kilo of sea bream cost us 120 euros and a dessert of French toast was 11 euros. The quality of the food doesn't justify the price. In Zumaia itself, there are restaurants that offer the same quality at a more reasonable price. The service was a bit unfriendly, with some unfriendly faces; I don't know if it was the owner. If you don't mind spending a fortune at this restaurant, I won't be returning.

The fish was excellent. The location is very pleasant, right by the river; I recommend the outdoor tables in the summer! It's a shame the prices are so high and there's no children's menu… they could serve the fish with a side dish; at that price, I think they could afford to!

This restaurant is an experience but you have to go with open eyes. It is on a tidal river so try and book near full tide otherwise you will see all the mud flats. Also, unless the weather is bad...
