    • Abarratia, the autonomous beer of the Basque Country

Abarratia beer is the autonomous and committed beer of the Basque Country. It was born at the beginning of 2023 in our new microbrewery located in Ayherre in the Basque Country, at the foot of Mount Abarratia, a place with strong symbolism.
Our desire is to promote the local territory and its know-how. For this, Abarratia offers quality beers produced from an artisanal recipe and raw materials from the Basque Country.

We are talking here about low fermentation, artisanal beers with character. This young brand of "thirsty" beers perfectly represents the values of the Basque Country: friendliness and pride. With its beers, Abarratia has been designed to bring together all generations of bon vivants who wish to share a good time with a good quality and local beer.

We are proud to brew the first 100% autonomous beer in the Basque Country.

      THE ABARRATIA RANGE

Abarratia is above all good beer in cans with a stylish and original design. In order to fight against its poor quality image, Abarratia has brought the can up to date!

Our first permanent range with 4 types of beer:

      Blonde (5%)
Characterized as a light and easy-drinking beer, it concentrates aromas of honey and a perfect balance between cereals and hops. It is thanks to these hops that you will smell herbaceous and fruity notes.

      White (4.5%)

A slightly cloudy beer with a very floral nose with a pleasant aromatic power during the tasting. The late addition of hops, orange peel, and coriander brings a floral and fruity taste.

      The IPA session (4.5%)
Very aromatic, this beer hopped during the first and second fermentation brings strong floral and fruity aromas. Before the bitter end of the mouth, give way to notes of exotic fruits.

      Triple (7.5%)
Beer of character, it carries the taste of roasted cereals thanks to the special malts. The addition of coriander when boiling brings a perfect balance between malts and hops. A slight bitterness will be felt thanks to a high quantity of malts.

What makes Abarratia an autonomous beer?

Abarratia is a standalone beer for 3 specific reasons:

      • Energy self-sufficient: thanks to solar panels that produce more energy than is consumed
      • Autonomous in raw materials: wheat, malt and hops come from the Basque Country
      • Autonomous in Water: the spring water necessary for the production of beer comes from the source of Uhaldegaraia in the Basque Country

Abarratia, a committed and responsible beer!

But that's not all, in addition to being autonomous, it is a beer committed to the planet and locally. Because making beers is good, but making good beers that respect the environment is better! For this, the entire process of creation, production and distribution of beer has been designed with a view to reducing its impact on the environment as much as possible:

The choice of the can: The choice of the can is carefully considered. Indeed, according to ADEME, producing a can emits 2.5 times less CO2 than a glass bottle. In addition, the recycling of the can is endless.

Short circuit: Suppliers and resellers are selected within a radius of 200 km around the brewery in order to limit the environmental impact.

Energy management: As already mentioned, the production of beer is very energy-intensive, which is why the brewery operates using photovoltaic panels. This system allows the brewery to produce more energy than necessary, the rest is then sold.

Water management: The water used is not only local but it is also reused as much as possible for cleaning, for example.

Waste management: Concerned about the environment, the company has entered into close collaboration with Bihur, a Basque company focused on the recovery of food co-products. In this way, spent grains from production are 100% reused to make flour and other waste is sorted.

0 plastic waste: Wishing to protect the environment and therefore to avoid the spread of plastic waste, we package our draft beers in stainless steel barrels and the cans in boxes from certified Basque forests.

Find Abarratia Basque autonomous beer in shops and bars near you in the Basque Country, as well as at local village festivals.
