Abarratia, the autonomous beer of the Basque Country

Abarratia beer is the Basque Country's independent and committed beer. It is brewed in Ayherre in the Basque Country, at the foot of Mount Abarratia, a place of powerful symbolism.
Our goal is to promote the local region and its expertise. To this end, Abarratia offers quality beers produced using artisanal recipes and raw materials from the Basque Country.

We are talking here about low-fermentation, artisanal beers with character. This young brand of "thirst-quenching" beers perfectly represents the values of the Basque Country: conviviality and pride. With its beers, Abarratia was designed to bring together all generations of bon vivants who wish to share a good time with a good, quality, local beer.
We are proud to brew the first 100% autonomous beer in the Basque Country.

THE ABARRATIA RANGE

Abarratia is above all good beer in a can with a stylish and original design. In order to combat its poor quality image, Abarratia has brought the can back into fashion !

Our first permanent range with 4 types of beers:

• The blonde (5%)

Characterized as a light and easy-drinking beer, it concentrates aromas of honey and a perfect balance between cereals and hops. It is thanks to these hops that you will notice herbal and fruity notes.

• The white one (4.5%)

A slightly cloudy beer with a very floral nose and a pleasant aromatic power when tasted. The late addition of hops, orange peel, and coriander brings a floral and fruity taste.

• The IPA session (4.5%)

Highly aromatic, this beer, hopped during the first and second fermentations, brings out strong floral and fruity aromas. Before the bitterness of the finish, give way to notes of exotic fruits.

• The triple (7.5%)

A beer with character, it carries the flavor of toasted cereals thanks to the special malts. The addition of coriander during boiling provides a perfect balance between malts and hops. A slight bitterness will be felt thanks to a high quantity of malts.

What makes Abarratia a stand-alone beer?
Abarratia is a standalone beer for 3 specific reasons:

• Energy self-sufficient : thanks to solar panels that produce more energy than is consumed
• Self-sufficient in raw materials: wheat, malt and hops come from the Basque Country
• Water Self-sufficient: the spring water needed for beer production comes from the Uhaldegaraia spring in the Basque Country

Abarratia, a committed and responsible beer!

But that's not all, in addition to being autonomous, it's a beer committed to the planet and locally. Because making beers is good, but making good beers that respect the environment is better! To achieve this, the entire process of creating, producing, and distributing the beer has been designed with the aim of minimizing its impact on the environment:

• Choosing the can : The choice of can is carefully considered. In fact, according to ADEME, producing a can emits 2.5 times less CO2 than a glass bottle. What's more, can recycling is endless.
• Short circuit : Suppliers and resellers are selected within a 200 km radius of the brewery in order to limit the environmental impact.
• Energy Management : As already mentioned, beer production is very energy-intensive, which is why the brewery operates using solar panels. This system allows the brewery to produce more energy than necessary, with the rest then being sold.
• Water management : The water used is not only local but is also reused as much as possible for cleaning, for example.
• Waste Management : Concerned about the environment, the company has entered into a close collaboration with Bihur, a Basque company focused on the recycling of food by-products. This way, the spent grains from production are 100% reused to make flour, and the other waste is sorted.
• Zero plastic waste : Eager to protect the environment and therefore avoid the spread of plastic waste, we package our draught beers in stainless steel kegs and cans in cardboard boxes from certified Basque forests.
