    • Abarratia, the independent beer of the Basque Country

Abarratia beer is the independent and committed beer of the Basque Country. It is brewed in Ayherre in the Basque Country, at the foot of Mount Abarratia, a place with strong symbolic significance.
Our aim is to promote the local area and its expertise. To this end, Abarratia offers quality beers produced using a traditional recipe and raw materials from the Basque Country.

We're talking about bottom-fermented, craft beers with character. This young brand of thirst-quenching beers perfectly embodies the values of the Basque Country: conviviality and pride. Abarratia's beers were designed to bring together all generations of bon vivants who want to share a good time with a quality, locally brewed beer.
We are proud to brew the first 100% self-sufficient beer in the Basque Country.

      THE ABARRATIA RANGE

Abarratia is above all about good beer in cans with a stylish and original design. To combat its image of being low-quality, Abarratia has brought the can back into fashion !

Our first permanent range with 4 types of beer:

      • The blonde (5%)

Characterized as a light and easy-drinking beer, it boasts aromas of honey and a perfect balance between grains and hops. It's thanks to these hops that you'll perceive herbaceous and fruity notes.

      • The white (4.5%)

A slightly hazy beer with a very floral aroma and a pleasant aromatic intensity on the palate. The late addition of hops, orange peel, and coriander imparts a floral and fruity taste.

      • The IPA session (4.5%)

Highly aromatic, this beer, hopped during both the first and second fermentations, delivers strong floral and fruity aromas. Before the bitter finish, allow notes of exotic fruits to emerge.

      • The triple (7.5%)

This beer has a distinctive character, with a roasted grain flavor thanks to the special malts. The addition of coriander during the boil creates a perfect balance between malts and hops. A slight bitterness is noticeable due to the high malt content.

What makes Abarratia a standalone beer?
Abarratia is a standalone beer for 3 specific reasons:

      • Energy self-sufficient : thanks to solar panels that produce more energy than is consumed
      • Self-sufficient in raw materials: wheat, malt and hops come from the Basque Country
      • Water self-sufficient: the spring water needed for beer production comes from the Uhaldegaraia spring in the Basque Country

Abarratia, a committed and responsible beer!

But that's not all; in addition to being self-sufficient, it's a beer committed to the planet and to local communities. Because making beer is good, but making good, environmentally friendly beer is even better! To that end, the entire process of creating, producing, and distributing the beer has been designed to minimize its environmental impact:

      • Choosing a can : The choice of a can is carefully considered. Indeed, according to ADEME (the French Agency for Ecological Transition), producing a can emits 2.5 times less CO2 than a glass bottle. Furthermore, cans can be recycled endlessly.
      • Short supply chain : Suppliers and retailers are selected within a 200km radius of the brewery in order to limit environmental impact.
      • Energy management : As previously mentioned, beer production is very energy-intensive, which is why the brewery operates using photovoltaic panels. This system allows the brewery to produce more energy than it needs; the surplus is then sold.
      • Water management : The water used is not only local but is also reused as much as possible for cleaning, for example.
      • Waste management : Committed to the environment, the company has entered into a close collaboration with Bihur, a Basque company focused on the recovery of food by-products. In this way, the spent grains from production are 100% reused to make flour, and other waste is sorted.
      • Zero plastic waste : Wishing to protect the environment and therefore avoid the spread of plastic waste, we package our draft beers in stainless steel kegs and the cans in cardboard boxes from certified Basque forests.
