In the heart of Biarritz, opposite the Rocher de la Vierge (Virgin's Rock), the Biarritz Aquarium invites you to dive into a fascinating world. More than sixty aquariums await you, allowing you to explore the richness of the seabed, from the Basque coast to tropical seas.
Scan, learn, play ! Thanks to Aquazoom, the Aquarium's free app, your visit becomes interactive : scan species, complete your collection, answer quizzes, take on missions and learn while having fun.
Start your visit in the Bay of Biscay, where you will observe jellyfish, octopus, moray eels and many other emblematic species of the Atlantic coast.
Next, delve into the past with an immersive 180° short film, projected onto three walls, which traces the history of the Aquarium since the late 19th century.
Continue with the Ocean [bluz] exhibition by the artist Good Bye Hippocrate, a series of vector illustrations in a "neo-art-deco" style, inspired by Biarritz in the 1930s. An explosion of colours, a Charleston atmosphere, and a gallery of portraits that are both poetic and offbeat.Continue your exploration in the Cetacean Gallery, where you can listen to the songs of humpback whales, before discovering the Cabinet of Curiosities. This last exhibit reveals rare marine treasures : fossils, corals, skeletons, shark jaws, dolphin fetuses, sawfish rostrums...
Then join Alice, the loggerhead turtle, in her cave for a life-size face-to-face encounter.
A highlight of your visit: don't miss the feeding demonstration with Izar and Charlie the seals, every day at 10:30 am and 5 pm. Our aquarists will explain how our Care Center works, where we take in seals stranded on the beaches during the winter. Discover how we care for them before releasing them back into their natural habitat.
Enjoy the panoramic terrace offering breathtaking views of the Basque coast, from Spain to the Landes region. From April to October, a snack bar with ocean views (adjacent to the Seal Terrace ) is available for your refreshments.
Throughout your journey, admire the pointillist murals by artists Romaround and La Zipolita. Their works, depicting giant turtles, cetaceans and an XXL octopus, immerse you in a fascinating aquatic world.
Then, be mesmerized by the new area entirely dedicated to jellyfish. Ten species live in spectacular tanks, including a panoramic aquarium. A recreated laboratory reveals their life cycle and reproduction. This unique project was completed in just 60 days by the Aquarium's teams !
The visit continues in the warm waters of the Indo-Pacific region. Coral reefs, brightly colored tropical fish, green turtles, surgeonfish, clownfish... a teeming world awaits you. Finally, be amazed by the immense 1.5 million liter aquarium, home to eight species of sharks and majestic rays ! The Biarritz Aquarium is also the exclusive home of the only scalloped hammerhead shark in mainland France.
A breathtaking spectacle. As a place of knowledge, the Biarritz Aquarium plays a crucial role in the conservation of marine life. Through educational programs and informative exhibitions, it raises public awareness of the challenges facing the oceans.
