Col d'Ibardin et le lac Xoldokogaina Nature Reserve in Urrugne

In the town of Urrugne, the Col d'Ibardin is part of the Pyrenean mountains of Labourd. Not far from the ocean, some circuits offer you the sensations of the mountain with a view of the sea. The Spanish border crosses the pass. From the top you will enjoy an exceptional panorama of the Spanish and French Pyrenees. Moreover, the routes starting from the pass take the “Sentier des Contrebandiers” ! On the way, you will cross pasture meadows, where you may come across some Pottoks, wild horses, or Betisoak, an ancient breed of Basque cows.

From the pass, you can reach Lake Xoldokogaina by following a hiking loop of about 3 hours, on a pedestrian path without difficulty. It is a family walk that allows you to reach this beautiful mountain lake, 330 meters above sea level. If swimming is not allowed there, the site is magnificent. It is a peaceful place, ideal for relaxing by the water or having a picnic.
