About

  • English
    • A famous replica of the frigate that took the Marquis de Lafayette to the Americas at the end of the 18th century, L'Hermione is currently open to visitors at the port of Bayonne in Anglet. For the first time since this frigate began sailing, it is open to the public during a refit.

During the repair work on the hull of this ship, free visits and guided tours are offered, take the opportunity to let yourself be carried away in this exceptional adventure ! You will discover the history of the construction of L'Hermione as well as its navigations but also its careening in Anglet, a site necessary for its relaunch.

Your visit will support this extraordinary project, supported by the association that owns the ship.

Two tour offers are available to you:

      • The self-guided tour (approximately 1 hour) will allow you to discover the history of L'Hermione, its many adventures and the associative project that is behind it in the quayside exhibition. You will then go on board and access the first two decks of the ship*.

      • The Discovery & History Guided Tour (1h30)** - the guide invites you to an initial immersion in the history of the frigate, the challenges of its construction in Rochefort over 17 years, its navigations and its major refit. You will access the upper deck and the crew dormitories, under the battery deck.

      • The major refit guided tour (1h30)** - this tour allows you to understand in detail what the major refit is, this extraordinary project which began in the fall of 2021. Descent to the bottom of the dry dock, as close as possible to the masts that have been removed and the hull of L'Hermione, where the repair work is being carried out. This visit is exceptional: since the frigate has been sailing, this is the first time that we have been able to approach the usually submerged part of its hull!

      * The exhibition is accessible to people with reduced mobility, however access to the ship requires very good mobility (gangway then on board steep and narrow stairs).
** Before or after the guided tour, you can discover the 200m² museum space
      on the quayside.
