    • Famous replica of the frigate which took the Marquis de Lafayette on board to the Americas at the end of the 18th century, L'Hermione is currently open to visitors at the port of Bayonne in Anglet. For the first time since this frigate has been sailing, it is open to the public during a refit operation.

During the repair work on the hull of this ship, free tours and guided tours are offered, take the opportunity to embark on this exceptional adventure! You will discover the history of the construction of L'Hermione as well as its navigations but also its refit in Anglet, the site necessary for its relaunch.

Your visit will support this extraordinary project, supported by the association that owns the ship.

Two tour offers are available to you:

      • The self-guided tour (approximately 1 hour) will allow you to discover the history of Hermione , her many adventures and the associative project which is at the origin of it, in the exhibition on the quayside. You will then board and access the first two decks of the ship*.

      • The discovery & history guided tour (1h30)** - the guide invites you to a first immersion in the history of the frigate, the challenges of its construction in Rochefort for 17 years, its navigations and its major refit. You will access the upper deck and the crew dormitories, below the battery deck.

      • The grand fairing guided tour (1h30)** - this visit allows you to understand in detail what the grand fairing is, this extraordinary project which started in the fall of 2021. Descent to the bottom of the refit form, at most near the masts that have been removed and the hull of L'Hermione, where repair work is being carried out. This visit is exceptional: since the frigate has been sailing, it is the first time that we can approach the usually submerged part of its hull!

      * The exhibition is accessible to people with reduced mobility, however access to the ship requires very good mobility (bridge then on board steep and narrow stairs).
** Before or after the guided tour, you can discover the 200m² museum space
      on the quayside.

Very interesting visit. We did the self-guided tour with first the very informative exhibition then the visit to the boat. We had the chance to meet Isolde who took almost an hour to talk about the boat, its history, how it works. A big thank you to her. Visited on a Tuesday, there weren't many people there and she was able to spend time with us. Looking forward to seeing the Hermione again but this time on the water and with her masts and cannons.

Informative and exciting guided tour allowing you to better understand this marvelous adventure, from the construction to the navigation and restoration of this replica of the Hermione frigate. Thank you to Antoine and Christophe for sharing their passion and knowledge with us during this visit (visit lasting more than 2 hours instead of 1h30) We recommend this family activity

Not suitable for children... nothing for them... no suggestion of games, little booklets to get up to speed with them... The project is beautiful, but the free visit part really needs to be revisited!

The ship herself is ready for sea, the modern gear is unobtrusive, the sails are canvas and the cordage is natural fibre. But what makes the difference is the shoreside information, workshops, hands...

Beautiful drive here from the village of Chatelaillon. Many ships were built here long ago and a replica ship, (the Hermione), sits for many to see what it was like way back when. Surrounded by many...

We had a wander round in the mid-afternoon, it was great to see a tall ship that had clearly been lovingly reconstructed. Unfortunately, partly due to the size of our group, the cost of guided tours...
