    • In Basque pelota, the Chistera is a curved wicker glove. In Saint-Jean-de-Luz, there are two restaurants on the corner of Boulevard Victor-Hugo, next to Les Halles. Two high places of conviviality which, even if they face each other (at numbers 17 and 23), belong to the same house. The Chistera offers a bistronomic approach for tasty meals while the Xistera focuses more on an authentic atmosphere of a pintxos bar, with a shellfish corner. What brings them together ? The sharing of refined cuisine and the Luzian soul carried by a dynamic team, Pretty decor and vast terraces complete the happiness.

For me, this is the place to stop in Saint-Jean-de-Luz during market days. Whether for a coffee, breakfast, or an aperitif, it's more than just a brasserie; it's a haven for regulars and those who know this charming and ideally located establishment. In the summer, the few tables outside are perfect for relaxing. The menu features local specialties with a Basque-Hyberian fusion that's so familiar here.

The place could be really nice, the atmosphere could be a bit more welcoming. Market day and torrential rain, yes! Around 12:20 pm, customers were just having a drink, very few people, three young people quietly going about their business while chatting amongst themselves behind the counter. The servers paid no attention to us despite our attempts to signal and call out. Apparently, this is a known staff failing. The wait was unbelievable and truly disappointing. At least 20-25 minutes! We wondered if the service was at the counter and didn't see any sign! Before even getting our drinks, we ended up choosing our tapas. There, finally, we were served!!!! However, the owner, who was present, seemed completely focused on counting the tapas, walking back and forth, and apparently had no desire to chat or say a word. And to top it all off, the coffee we ordered...completely forgotten; followed by several apologies from the staff involved. And lastly, on the bill, two glasses of Rueda wine were charged, which we didn't ask for!!!... which were deducted without any problem! We left after ordering five tapas per person for two hours!!!! We're not tourists, we're working people from Ciboure!! On the other hand, a huge plus, incredibly friendly and exceptional... glasses of water are prepared in advance and placed on a counter. That... is absolutely fantastic! The tapas are reasonably priced and delicious. Despite everything, I'd like to go back for the tapas, but not under these unprofessional conditions, which can only improve in a place designed to be very pleasant and welcoming... if possible!!!
