    • Founded in Bayonne in 1951 by Joseph and Madeleine Andrieu, L'Atelier du Chocolat is the creator of the Bouquet de Chocolat® and the Ateliers-Boutiques, a unique concept in the world of chocolatiers.

Living around chocolate, working with the material, discovering new sensory journeys, this is the tasty and delicious experience offered by L'Atelier du Chocolat, an unusual detour in the Basque Country.

Choosing the Atelier du Chocolat means choosing high quality chocolates, 100% pure cocoa butter, always produced by our chocolatiers in our manufacturing workshops in Bayonne.

Roasted hazelnuts, caramelized almonds, Espelette pepper powder, we put as much rigor in the selection of our raw materials as in our manufacturing gestures.

Find all our Workshops-Boutiques in the Basque Country, where the chocolate material is transformed daily into thin sheets under the skilful gestures of chocolate makers. See our Boutique Workshops here.

You can book the tours very easily online. We did it in one of the shops. The two people working in the shop in the museum were very nice and could speak English very well. Almost everything is also written in English. They even offered to change the video that usually runs in French to the video in English. You can watch them working in the factory. Very interesting. They have a little activity for children at the end. My daughter loved it. Trying the chocolate at the end was of course the best. The man working at the shop explained each piece of chocolate very well, and it was very interesting. Of course we couldn't leave empty handed.

This is THE place/palace of Chocolate! The museum offers a nice trip through chocolate history. In particular, it explains how Bayonne has become the chocolate capital city in France. The visit ends with a delicious tasting. Guided by an expert, you can taste different flavors of chocolate and also share your feedback. Kids are even offered a workshop … (this is a surprise!) Last but not least, the shop is a great opportunity to purchase top quality products for a reasonable price.

A fascinating journey through the history of chocolate and how the Basque country became such a powerhouse of the stuff. The tasting at the end was surprisingly informative! If you are staying at the nearby Campanile the 'atelier' is just behind it. Google's walking directions will take you on a long windy route, but there is significant shortcut... ask at reception.
