    • Former fishing port and flagship destination forever marked by the passage of Empress Eugenie de Montijo and her husband Napoleon as well as other greats of this world, Biarritz first of all seduces with its architectural richness and the beauty of its landscapes. The city offers a great diversity of beaches over 6 kilometers: cliffs, rocks, sand, creeks, expanses that run to the horizon of the mountains at low tide.

      Well-being is celebrated there.

Capital of thalassotherapy, appreciated for decades for the mild climate and the benefits of seawater, Biarritz is also recognized worldwide for golf (the only golf destination contract in France) and for surfing.

This discipline, imported in 1957 by the American Peter Viertel, husband of actress Deborah Kerr, celebrated his 60th birthday in Europe in 2017.

For more than half a century, Biarritz has established itself as a must-see destination for board sports and has received the Ville de surf label - 3 stars (out of 3) - awarded by the French Surf Federation.

In Biarritz, good living is king! The city, in fact, also seduces for its conviviality and its joie de vivre and wriggles all year round, especially around its covered market, the Marché des Halles. Numerous gastronomic, sporting and cultural events are organized there at any time of the year.

But Biarritz also attracts art lovers. Headquarters of the National Choreographic Center, the Malandain Ballet Biarritz, Biarritz has always been sensitive to art which is often honored in its various forms.

To allow you to discover and take full advantage of all these riches, the Tourist Office (open all year round, except December 25 and January 1) offers you the best services. Possibility to book your accommodation, visits to sites and museums as well as other activities.

Reviewed yesterday Dreadful experience This office has two entrances. I didn't know this and followed directions which led up several flights of stone steps leading to a door which had advice in a few languages to press hard on the handle to open the door. The door opened out onto a step it seemed to me three floors up. I was carrying bags and terrified of falling back, instead I fell in flat on my face, with my glasses flying . I'm 78. Several people ran to help and I was given a chair. I said I didn't want a doctor, Someone suggested ice as my forehead was cut, but after about 5 minutes someone said they had none. A sweet young woman chatted to me and suggested I get arnica for the bruise on my forehead. This was a good idea but no-one offered to go to a pharmacy and get it. I asked for a drink of water. I heard a senior woman say that water was no good for a fall. No one suggested calling a taxi for me, to take me to my hotel. I left after about ten minutes, during a downpour, feeling very shaken, I speak fluent French so there was no misunderstanding. Apart from the young women who chatted to me, no one wanted to know. I never got that glass of water.
