    • Biarritz is undoubtedly one of the most famous French seaside resorts.
After a certain boom thanks to the fishing activity in the Middle Ages, Biarritz will however remain until the 18th century much less dynamic and recognized than its sisters of Saint Jean de Luz and Bayonne who then had the preferences of royalty.
From the 18th century, everything changed, seaside resorts became very fashionable and the wealthy, celebrities, artists and powerful began to invade Biarritz, Napoleon in 1808 then Victor Hugo, Stendhal... then Napoleon III had it built there. in 1854 the Villa Eugénie.
Since then, except during the war of 39/45, Biarritz will not cease until today to attract vacationers, French, Spanish, German or English, rich and famous who will build dozens of sumptuous villas there to organize the evenings. the most magnificent. These splendid and all original villas make the architecture of Biarritz today a harmonious mixture, sometimes obsolete, but not without charm, of very different styles.
Biarritz therefore remains very fashionable, surfers, golfers and other fans of the game or Thalasso are there to attest to the attraction still exerted by the seaside resort in the 21st century !
To visit Biarritz, nothing better than to leave the Lighthouse of the Saint Martin point to discover the geography of the city there : the littoral made up of beaches in the North which extend beyond Anglet until the Landes; and to the south the two main beaches of the bay of Biarritz, the Miramar beach and the Hôtel du Palais, the large beach and its Casino. In the distance still to the south, the small fishing port embedded in the rock, and a little further still the famous Rocher de la Vierge, emblem of the city, connected to the coast by a metal footbridge designed by Eiffel. Finally, at the end of the rocky outcrops of the bay, another symbol of the city's architectural wealth and its sumptuous past : the Villa Belza, built at the end of the 19th century by the architect Alphonse Bertrand.
Visit the central beaches by strolling along the promenade along the seafront to the Rocher de la Vierge, passing through the fishing port, the rich and winding avenues of the city center and their beautiful and luxurious boutiques of major brands, take a tour of the Bellevue Casino, discover the Museum of the Sea on the Esplanade du Rocher de la Vierge ; Also visit the Saint Martin district and its church dating from 1342 which was then the center of the first medieval village, the Château Gramont which welcomed Napoleon and Eugenie, the Château Boulard which faces it, then to the north of the city, the Imperial Chapel built in 1864 following the request of the Empress Eugenie.
