Directions Couteau Basque - Antique Basque knives from the 12th to the 20th century

About

  • English
    • It was while building his collection of regional French knives that Christophe discovered and unearthed from the past a beautiful traditional Basque cutlery that had been forgotten.

The knives thus found are dated between the 12th century and the 20th century.

Christophe and Séverine Lauduique consider themselves "discoverers" of cutlery treasures and "transmitters" of history.

Thus, thanks to their expertise, they are bringing back into circulation the REAL Basque knives. Heritage and territorial.

This is the approach of their workshop: to remake and revive old Basque knives, found engraved or drawn on paper archives.

The Couteau Basque workshop and boutique manufactures, among other things, pocket knives that use the friction folding system (with "two nails") from the Pyrenees, formerly used by peasants and shepherds and dating back to the 12th century.

The Basque Knife team respects tradition and quality by crafting handles from wood or horn and manufacturing blades from XC75 carbon steel, 12C27 stainless steel, forged Damascus steel and stainless Damascus steel, as well as suminagashi, also known as sandwich steel (or VG10).
The sleeves are engraved with different symbols of Labourd, Lower Navarre and Soule (which are the three provinces of the Northern Basque Country).

Christophe and Séverine invite visitors interested in their work to possibly choose The handle and blade of their future knife, as well as the engraving that will personalize this unique and heritage object. And all this at no extra cost!

The workshop shop will welcome you at 26 rue des Basques in Bayonne, from Wednesday to Friday from 10am to 1pm and from 3pm to 6pm. As well as some Saturdays from 11am to 2pm and from 3pm to 6pm.
