Welcome to the Olhabidea house! This large 16th-century Labourdine house, nestled in the heart of a large garden bordered by a river, is located in Sare, one of the most beautiful villages in France and the Basque Country. During a gastronomic stop in our restaurant, or a longer stay in our guest rooms, you can enjoy the peace and hospitality of the place.
Admit that you didn't expect this when you entered a 16th-century Basque farmhouse! It's hard to call it a "restaurant room." It's more like a series of atmospheres and cozy nooks. The highly sought-after English-style decor is made up of items brought back from England by Jean and Guillaume's parents, creating a completely astonishing and terribly seductive result. Depending on the moment and your mood, you might prefer to have tea while reading a book by the fireplace, have lunch on the library balcony, or in the old kitchen... With the key to different and ever-changing pleasures.
We speak English, Spanish and Basque.
Starter: €13 / Main course: €25 / Dessert: €11
Discovery menu at €45 every evening (Sunday lunchtime and public holidays). It includes 2 choices of starters, 2 choices of main courses, and 2 choices of desserts.
"We wanted to keep the house feel," explains Jean Fagoaga, "that of a family table where people enjoy getting together to taste what we've prepared for you." On the plate, you'll find seasonal vegetables from the garden. It doesn't get any fresher: they're picked that very morning! The rest comes from local, organic producers, with seafood coming from the Saint-Jean-de-Luz fish market.
So it's the maturity and quality of the available produce that dictate the daily menu. "It would probably be simpler to have a seasonal menu that hangs around for two months," jokes Guillaume. "But here, that's how it is: the garden decides." There's no way to cook more homely: even the manure used for the vegetables comes from their brother Emmanuel's equestrian center!
